This summer, the Rainbow Centre’s Summer Lunch Club brought joy, laughter, and plenty of activities to children and young people in our community. Running from July through August, the program welcomed 30 attendees each day, offering an exciting mix of sports, creative activities, and delicious meals to keep everyone entertained and energized for four hours a day.

From the start, the outdoor activities were a hit. The kids enjoyed basketball, flag American football and rugby, and even took part in some nostalgic fun with hula hooping and hopscotch. Indoors, there was no shortage of creative and stimulating activities. The children engaged in colouring, Uno, chess, and draughts, with opportunities for STEM-related crafts like colouring roses for wall displays and making Hama bead designs.

Meals were a highlight of the day, with delicious, homemade dishes prepared by our talented resident chef, Lucas. On the 30th of July, the children feasted on meatballs, mashed potatoes, peas, and topped it all off with apple crumble and cream. Another memorable day, the 12th of August, featured rice with meat and vegetable sauce, followed by the ever-popular waffles with fruit and ice cream.

The summer was filled with fun, and the program wouldn’t have been complete without some special trips! We ventured to Gulliver’s Land in Milton Keynes and spent a sunny day at the seaside in Walton-on-the-Naze, where the children built sandcastles and splashed in the waves.

We couldn’t have done it without our incredible team. Special thanks go to Anne (Coordinator), Dee (Sports Coordinator), our fantastic coaches Collins, Shak, and Deshawn, and our dedicated junior leaders Ellis, Eloise, and Maddie. A heartfelt thank you as well to Sarah (Centre Manager) for her tireless efforts.
We’re also grateful to our funders, including Young Barnet Foundation, the Holiday Activity Fund, and the Mayor’s Fund for London, who made this fantastic program possible. The Summer of Fun 2024 was truly a season to remember at the Rainbow Centre! We look forward to bringing even more exciting activities to our community in the future.
